The main rule of anyone who starts to learn English sounds simple: “Never translate phrases word by word.”
Not everyone can understand the depth of this truth at once. That’s why so many newcomers in the world of English (and not just newcomers) make many mistakes, trying to formulate phrase according to the rules of the Russian language. Let’s demonstrate the tragedy of the situation by examples 🙂
№ 1. I am agree
Правильный вариант «I agree»
№2. I feel myself great!
Правильный вариант «I feel great!»
№ 3. Путаница со значением слова «to cry»
This word can be attributed to the list of “false friends of translators”. It is consonant with the Russian “screaming,” which is why we can often mistakenly use it in the sense of “screaming, screaming, screaming”, although “to cry” is translated as “crying” (at least, this is what sings in one sad song).
№ 4. It depends from
Правильный вариант: «It depends on»
№5. Very unique/extremely unique
Правильный вариант: unique
We wish you to lessen the shock of English speakers. 🙂 Use English words correctly. After all, a foreigner, fluent in English, causes respect (in some cases – admiration)
